Rails to Trails of Northwest Montana and KALICO Art Center will host a viewing and dedication party at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, for the Tunnel Vision mural project.

The event will honor the five new murals painted on tunnels along the trail system this year. Seven artists and over 120 volunteers transformed nearly 5400 square feet of gray concrete into five colorful murals over the course of the summer and fall.

The community celebration will begin by gathering at the Flathead Valley Community College/Kidsports tunnel at 11 a.m. to view the murals by Grace and Sarah Washko, and Louis Still Smoking and John Pepion. Then partygoers walk, bike, or drive to the tunnel between My Place Hotel (755 Treeline Road) and Glacier High School to check out the murals by Madison Apple and Kristy Overman, and the most recently completed "Fern Forms" designed by Griffin Foster. A dedication ceremony will begin at 12:15 p.m. Warm drinks and light snacks will be provided by Copper Mountain Coffee and Ceres Bakery.

The Tunnel Vision 2021 public art project was made possible by the support of community businesses, individuals and organizations along with grant awards from Whitefish Community Foundation, AARP Montana and Discover Kalispell. Phase 3 of Tunnel Vision 2021 is slated for next summer at the Lone Pine tunnel south of Foy’s Lake Road.
